OUR STORY
It started with learning to understand my own hair.
Growing up, I was raised by my grandmother, Patricia Marie, who was white. While I was surrounded by her unwavering love and support, understanding and maintaining my textured hair was something we had to navigate without much guidance.
As I got older, I tried everything. Relaxers. Different products. Different routines. I spent hundreds of dollars searching for the right combination, always hoping the next product would finally give me the beautiful results I wanted.
For a while, it simply felt easier to put my hair away in braids or weaves than to keep trying to figure it out.
But as an adult, something changed.
Instead of trying to make my hair easier to manage, I started learning how to understand it.
I went down the rabbit hole—learning about curls and coils, ingredients, techniques, moisture, styling, and what textured hair actually needs.
What started as a personal journey became a passion project.
The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn. And before I knew it, I wasn't only figuring out my own hair. I found myself sharing what I'd learned and helping others better understand and care for their curly manes, too.
THAT PASSION BECAME MARIE MISU BEAUTY.
Through my own experience, I realized how many of us were going through the same thing: shelves full of products, endless recommendations, hundreds of dollars spent on trial and error—and still not really understanding what our hair needed.
I wanted to create something that could make that journey feel different.
Marie Misu Beauty was created to take some of the guesswork out of textured-hair care through thoughtfully curated products, education, and a community where learning your hair can feel exciting instead of overwhelming.
THE MEANING BEHIND MARIE
The name Marie Misu Beauty also carries a piece of where my story began.
Marie comes from my grandmother's middle name, Patricia Marie. Although she couldn't teach me everything about caring for textured hair, she gave me something far greater—the unwavering love and support that gave me the confidence to learn, explore, and eventually create something of my own.
Including her name in Marie Misu is my way of honoring the woman who helped shape the person behind the brand.
OUR WHY
Ultimately, I want Marie Misu Beauty to help change the way we experience our natural hair.
Natural hair is not a burden.
It's a blessing.
Caring for it shouldn't feel like a constant headache or an endless cycle of trial and error. It can be a beautiful experience of discovering your texture, understanding what it needs, and learning to appreciate everything it can do.
